Helena Domingues, Patent Examiner at European Patent Office
I joined the European Patent Office (EPO) in October 2000 after having completed a PhD in structural biology and protein engineering at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg in collaboration with the University of Utrecht. During my first three years at the EPO I worked in the cluster of Pure and Applied Chemistry where I searched and examined patent applications directed to pharmaceutical/medical uses of chemical and biological molecules. In 2004 I moved to the Biotechnology cluster where I have worked in different fields.
For the past 12 years I have examined patent applications and oppositions focusing on therapeutic antibodies and related technologies as well as vaccines. As of the January 1st 2019 I manage a team of fifteen examiners working in this technical field.
