Yvonne Chan
Director, Center for Digital Health at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Yvonne Yu-Feng Chan, MD, PhD, is Director of the Digital Health Center at the Icahn Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology at Mount Sinai. She is a national leader in mobile health and digital health research, and a board-certified Emergency physician. The mission of her Digital Health Center is to rapidly drive large-scale participation of consumers in biomedical research and clinical care, by leveraging the latest mobile/digital technology and advanced analytic techniques to uncover novel insights and actionable results.
Dr. Chan was the principal investigator for the Mount Sinai Asthma Mobile Health Study using the Asthma Health app powered by Apple’s ResearchKit. This pioneering study digitally enrolled >10,000 participants from 3 countries. The results, published in Nature Biotechnology, demonstrated that a broad scale clinical study could be conducted in its entirety via a smartphone application, including remote participant recruitment, consent, prospective collection of data including environmental and device data, as well as secure bi-directional data exchange between participants and investigators. Currently, Dr. Chan and her digital health team are creating and deploying an electronic informed consent platform to transform Mount Sinai’s recruitment & engagement of clinical research participants. Additionally, she is also the Mount Sinai principal investigator for the NIH U01 “Practice-Based Research to Improve Self-Management Support (PRISMS) Sensor Development Projects for Pediatric Asthma study”- an innovative smartphone and biosensor device research collaboration with the Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors at Arizona State University and University of Southern California. Currently,
Dr. Chan co-leads the Mount Sinai, Sanofi, and Sema4 Digital Team of the 5-year, large-scale research study that incorporates molecular, clinical, and real-world digital data to advance precision asthma treatment and management.
